Apply to teach Tom.
If you’ve used something Tom hasn’t, we want you on the show.
Teach Tom is a new podcast. Each episode, Sam Odio drags in a world-class expert to teach Tom Preston-Werner one thing he doesn’t already know. Most of those guests come from our network — this page is for the ones who don’t.
Takes a few minutes — we read every one.
What the show is
Each episode is a single lesson. The guest knows something Tom doesn’t, and spends 45 minutes teaching it — the way you’d teach a peer, not a beginner. Past guests include Wes McKinney (creator of pandas) and Jesse Vincent (creator of Superpowers). It’s a tech-leaning show — engineering, AI, infrastructure — that’s where Tom’s curiosity lives and where most pitches land.
Who Tom is
Tom Preston-Werner co-founded GitHub, invented Gravatar, and wrote the first Jekyll. He knows, by most measures, an enormous amount. The show works when our guest knows something he doesn’t.
What makes a good lesson
- Narrow and specific. “Here’s how I run my agent stack” beats “where AI is going.”
- Grounded in real use. An AI tool you actually use to solve a real problem — not just opinions. Built it or installed it; either way, you know its limits.
- Something Tom can install in one go. Concrete, installable in a sitting — not a refresher on Git or a methodology talk.
What we’re not looking for
- Generic AI or founder takes.
- Product pitches dressed as lessons.
